No. 1 in our Top 10: itch.io
The independent creators' marketplace.
Our verdict
itch.io is less a portal than an open shop floor for independent developers. Many projects run straight in the browser, others are downloads, and creators decide whether a game is free, paid or pay-what-you-want. For experimental and jam games nothing else comes close.
What works
- Enormous range of indie and game-jam work
- Creators set their own pricing, many titles free
- Strong devlogs, comments and collections
What to know
- Not every game runs in the browser
- Browsing takes patience; curation is light
