How we score the portals
Every portal is tested in ordinary desktop and mobile browsers, as a guest first and then with an account where one exists. We then give a mark from 1 to 10 on each of four criteria.
- Catalogue depth. How many games the portal offers and how wide the genre spread is, weighed against how many of them are worth opening.
- Instant play. How quickly a newcomer gets from the home page into a running game, including whether an account is demanded.
- Interface comfort. How readable the pages are, how they behave on phones, and how much advertising gets in the way of play.
- Community & discovery. Tools that help players find good games and talk about them: ratings, collections, comments, profiles, achievements.
From marks to ranking
The overall score is the simple average of the four marks, rounded to one decimal. Portals are listed from highest to lowest. On a tie, the stronger community mark goes first.
What the scores are not
They are editorial opinion, not measurements. We do not publish traffic figures or user counts, and we leave out any detail we could not confirm. No portal has paid for, reviewed or approved its position.
