Data sources

Every number on a scoreboard comes from somewhere. This page says where ours come from, how they are checked and what rules apply to names, marks and images.

How results reach the site

Results, league tables, fixtures, scorers, line-ups and brackets are entered by our desks once each round has finished, working from the competitions' own records. Wherever possible a figure is cross-checked against a second reference before it is published. Every match centre links to the report it was taken from, and every table carries the date it was last updated.

Kick-off times are stored in UTC and shown in your own time zone. When a fixture's kick-off has passed, its status reads "Live" during the usual length of a match and "Result soon" until the confirmed result is entered; we never show a score that has not been published by an official source.

Real-time updates. Minute-by-minute updates will come from a licensed real-time data provider. The agreement is not yet signed; the provider will be named here, with any attribution its licence requires, as soon as it is.

How we check

  • Final scores are cross-checked against a second reference, and goal events are checked to add up to the final score.
  • Where only one source publishes a detail, such as match statistics or line-ups, we say so in our internal notes and correct it if an official record differs.
  • Disputed figures are reviewed by the Feed & Standards Desk against the competition's own records.
  • We run no automated scrapers against other publishers' sites or apps.

Names, logos and marks

League, club, tournament and team logos are only shown when we hold a licence, either directly or through the data provider's agreement. Without one, teams appear as their name in text with a neutral coloured badge carrying their initials, which is how the whole site looks today. Names of real competitions and games, where they appear in text, are used only to identify them; they are never part of our own brand.

Images and video

There are no photographs on PlayTheDream today; every article image is a graphic drawn in-house and credited that way. Licensed agency photography, when used, will carry a caption with the agency name. Highlight clips, if we add them, will come only as embeds from the rights holder's own channels.

Game titles

Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant are trademarks of their respective owners. PlayTheDream is not affiliated with or endorsed by any game publisher or competition organiser.
